Robbie Scott Competes In ‘Chuck Gear Memorial’

Shinnston, WV --- West Virginia dirt Late Model driver Robbie Scott, 30, of Shinnston, WV headed to Elkins Motor Speedway in Elkins, WV for the annual ‘Chuck Gear Memorial’, a race he was the defending champion. Scott, an Independent Racing Series regular, drives the team’s Rocket Chassis/Mopars by Stanton #18 sponsored by Amos Paving, Atlas Autobody Parts LLC., Patricia Feltz, Walt's Inc., Advance Auto Parts of Shinnston, WV, Hoosier Tire, Rocket Chassis and Scott Sign and Design.

“We went to Elkins for the ‘Chuck Gear Memorial’, a race in which I am the defending champion and we qualified third and ran fourth in the dash and finished fourth in the feature,” explained Scott. “We had a great car but had to start last on the field because Mike Benedum half spun in front of Jared Hawkins and myself with us making slight contact on the opening circuit.”

“The track officials put us back in our spot and then after 6-7 pace laps decided to put us on the tail. I have no clue as to who makes these calls but I, myself and a number of other people thought it was bull but we came from 24th to fourth. So it turned out well. We were very pleased overall. Congratulations to my good friend Rick Williams on his win! He and his crew are top notch and very deserving of that win.”

While Scott is a regular on the Independent Racing Series he opt to miss the IRS race at KC Raceway last Saturday. The team had good reason. “Our plans Saturday were to compete in the IRS event but when we fired up the car after having the engine rebuilt from the Challenger event we discovered another problem,” revealed Scott. “We were 99% sure it was the oil pump but did not have another one to replace it. We called Rocket and they had none either. So our only option would have been to take one off of the other car and if this still did not fix the problem then neither of the cars would be ready.”

“This left us with our only option, to run our small engine. Without a guaranteed starting spot in the IRS event we could not financially afford to chance not having a shot at winning some money. We also felt that taking the small engine to KC would be like taking a knife to a gunfight. So we made the best decision we could based on the circumstances.”

This coming weekend Scott will be racing at Beckley Speedway in the ‘Randy Thurman Memorial’ on Saturday at Tyler County Speedway for a regular show and then at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on Sunday for the ‘Red Miley Memorial’. As for our IRS Series bid we will now only run selected event because of missing the KC show we are out of the points hunt.”

“We enjoy running with them and they are a great bunch of people. We look at it like this, there is always next season. This will give us a chance to run some other shows we would have otherwise missed. Maybe it was some type of divine intervention what happened because our luck has been terrible on the tour this year. We will continue to work hard and support our sponsors and the people behind us. Thanks to all of our fans who support us also!”

Additionally, Scott will be spotlighted in a feature story in an upcoming issue of Dirt Late Model magazine.
