Robbie Scott Races In Home State
Shinnston, WV --- West Virginia dirt Late Model driver Robbie Scott, 30, of Shinnston, WV spent a weekend racing West Virginia style as the driver stayed in-state and competed at Elkins Motor Speedway and Tyler County Speedway racing the teams Rocket Chassis/Mopars by Stanton #18 sponsored by Amos Paving, Atlas Autobody Parts LLC., Patricia Feltz, Walt's Inc., Advance Auto Parts of Shinnston, WV, Hoosier Tire, Rocket Chassis and Scott Sign and Design.
Scott raced Friday at Elkins Motor Speedway where the former track champion came home second in the main event. The weekend went pretty well, commented Scott. We went to Elkins Friday to run a regular show to shake the car down and try some new things. We started sixth in our heat and finished second and we started third in the feature and finished second. The track was one-lane all night and even though I felt we had a faster car, the leader had the lane, sometimes you just have to settle I guess.
On Saturday the team headed to Tyler County Speedway for the annual TOPLESS 50 race, a race Scott won in 2005. There were 36 cars, we qualified fifth, finished fourth in our heat, won the first consi, started 13th in feature and made it up to ninth, explained Scott. The track started taking rubber very early and I have never seen it do that this early in the season. I think it took everyone by surprise and pretty much everyone went a little soft on rubber. I know we did.
Passing was tough at that point, so where you had made it to early in the race is pretty much where you finished. All in all I feel like we learned some things this weekend and the car is in one piece so we are pleased, not satisfied but pleased.
A couple of our sponsors were on hand this weekend to watch us and that went well. We appreciate them all! This weekend we will head to Indiana with the IRS Series and we are excited about that, it 's the furthest I have ever been to race. We hope it ends up better than the race at Hilltop, we were good up there through the whole event, just couldn't finish it off.
Scott is running for the championship title and Rookie of the Year title with the new Independent Racing Series (IRS) this season. This weekend finds Scott and the IRS racing on Friday May 18 at Union County Speedway in Liberty, IN then on Saturday May 19 at Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon, IN.
Scott also announced that a new Mighty Motorsports website will debut soon designed by NRG Web Design. Additionally, Scott will be spotlighted in a feature story in an upcoming issue of Dirt Late Model magazine.
